DC Black Theatre Festival | Seven Spools of Thread - adapted for the stage by Tracy Brown. A play for youth!

The Universal African Dance and Drum Ensemble and Camden Repertory Theater who brought you Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters and African Cinderella in 2010 - 2011, cordially invite you and your family to witness our holiday theater series, original music production, Seven Ppools of Thread, a Kwanzaa story.

The "seven spools of thread" is an African folktale about the origin of the kente cloth weaves together the seven principles of kwanzaa using the fate of seven brothers' and their looming inheritance.  This is a timeless tone of traditional folktale about seven brothers who are having a difficult time getting along, they bicker and fight every day until one day their father dies and leaves them with an unusual request to spin seven spools of thread into gold or they will be turned into beggars.

We invite you to witness the award winning original story by Angela Shelf Medearis come to life. this colorful and magnificent story has received the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award, the American Library Association's Notable Book for Children Award and the Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young People Award.
