The Environmental Film Festival returns to THEARC this spring with three more unique films that examine nature and its role in developing communities:  Turtle - The Incredible Journey, The Whale, and In Organic We Trust.  There will be post-discussions after certain films.

TURTLE: THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY (United Kingdom/Austria/Germany, 2009, 81 min.)
This film documents the 25-year journey of a loggerhead turtle as she follows the path of her ancestors on one of the most extraordinary journeys in the natural world.  You will see the many obstacles she faces including a near death experience at the hands of fishermen.  Narrated by Miranda Richardson.  Directed by Nick Stringer.  Produced by Save Our Seas Foundation.  Official Selection, 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.

THE WHALE

This film is the true story of Luna, a young orca, who is separated from his large family and ends up in Nootka Sound, an ultra scenic area on the west coast of Vancouver Island.  While there, he warms up to people in the area by letting them pet him and even feel his tongue.  Narrated by Ryan Reynolds.  Directed by Michael Parfit.  Produced by Suzanne Chisholm.

(USA, 2012, 82 min.) Washington, D.C. Premiere
This film examines the popularity of organic foods in the last 10 years.  It shows how the general population is becoming increasingly interested in buying organic products, making it more than a fad for well-educated young professionals.  With demand on the rise, big corporations are jumping in the “organic” food market which has resulted in several shortcomings.   Directed by Kip Pastor.  Produced by Kip Pastor and Emma Fletcher.
