ArtReach at THEARC partners with Bridge Park to Host 1st Annual Fish Bike Parade

On April 12, 2015, ArtReach at THEARC and the 11th Street Bridge Park will partner to host the first annual Anacostia River Festival Fish Bike Parade! Colorful handmade fish windsocks afixed to hundreds of bicycles will recreate a beautiful, river of Koinobori fish traveling down the streets of Washington, D.C!

Over the next few weeks ArtReach students and staff will create fish flags inspired by the Japanese tradition of creating carp-shaped windsocks. The fish windsocks will then be attached to poles on the back of bikes for a flying fish performance at the festival.

Anyone and everyone is invited to participate in learning about fish native to the Anacostia River and creating a fish windsock of their own. In preparation of the parade, ArtReach will even host workshops to create fish windsocks! These workshops are free, open to all ages, and for everyone regardless of creative experience!
