THEARC Introduces "YouthNights" Evening Programming during Spring Break 2015

THEARC Introduces "YouthNights" Evening Programming during Spring Break 2015

Most of our local schools are closed the week of April 13th and the young people of Ward 7 and Ward 8 will need a safe place to go in the evenings, and need a safe way to get there. The Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC) is that place. We are adding extra hours during spring break (April 13th-April 16th) so community youth have something to do at night.

The doors of THEARC will stay open until 11PM (Monday through Thursday) and the building will be filled with non-stop activity for young people ages 8-18 and their families. There will be a 4X4 basketball tournament, movies for kids, movies for teens, games, snacks & beverages, a teen poetry slam, an open mic, karaoke and more. A WPGC on-air personality will help us open and close the festivities for the week.

YouthNights@THEARC Schedule of Events

April 13: 4x4 Basketball Tournament and Games with WPGC’s DJ Flexx

April 14: Teen Poetry Slam featuring FRESHH Inc. and DC Youth Slam Team

April 15: Movie Night in THEARC Theater

April 16: Open Mic with WPGC’s Joe Clair and Shack Nd Pack

AND IT'S ALL FREE to east of the river pre-teens and teens!

This program comes together to meet a very real need. Over the past few months, the community has gathered to talk about the violence that plagues our young people and what can be done to counter it. Everyone agrees that at the top of the list are positive evening activities and safe transportation back-and-forth for youth. We want to provide a safe alternative to the streets during spring break.

THEARC and its partner organizations are sponsoring YouthNights@THEARC events to create a safe haven at THEARC during spring break. A free shuttle bus will run between THEARC, several Parklands residences and Congress Heights Metro station until 10:45 PM.
