Parklands Community Center

Since 1980, Parklands Community Center’s guiding principles have been Faith, Love and Commitment.  PCC’s mission is to enhance the quality of life of low-income residents and ex-offenders primarily living east of the Anacostia River.  Over the years, PCC has offered positive and constructive alternatives to children and youth exposed to substance abuse and violent gang activities.  PCC expanded its programming to include computer training and job placement, city-wide Family Strengthening Conferences, support services to homeless families and a workforce development program.

Currently, PCC offers healthy child and family development programming through its Moving On – A Life Changing Program.  PCC’s approach includes year-round parenting workshops, empowerment/life-skill training, social service support and referrals, and family bonding activities.  PCC’s primary goals are to enhance participant’s lifestyles, their ability to be self-sufficient and to ensure that their children grow up in a nurturing and loving environment with the skills they learn.

The "Ward 8 After-School All Stars" is fun-filled and educational after-school program for pre-teens and adolescents ages 11-14 living in Ward 8. Participants will learn about positive, healthy lifestyle choices including abstaining from drugs, alcohol and sexual activity. This program operates twice a week; every Monday and Thursday from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Stipend and refreshments...
