Chuck Close Prints:
Process and Collaboration
In this summer semester, students will explore the remarkable
career of artist Chuck Close from the perspective of the Corcoran’s
exhibition Chuck Close Prints: Process and Collaboration. More
than a painter, photographer, and printmaker, Close is a builder
who, in his words, builds "painting experiences for the viewer."
Highly renowned as a painter, Close is also a master printmaker,
who has, over the course of more than 30 years, pushed the
boundaries of traditional printmaking in remarkable ways.
Students will study photorealism and proportion, and learn
how to create the illusion of volume by utilizing the photo grid
method. Exploring the exciting world of screen printing, students
will design personal photorealistic paintings referencing the trends
of contemporary pop culture.
